Kálmán Balogh and the cimbalom players of the future
World-Wide

First, we gather together the great talents in their 20s and 30s into a nice bouquet, before the Cimbalmos Trio makes its debut in the evening. The ensemble features two Balogh pupils, Ferenc Zimber and Dániel Szabó, alongside the main protagonist.

In the first part of the evening, two talented cimbalom players will show off their skills. With one exception, they all completed their studies at the folk music faculty of the Liszt Academy and are now recognised performers at both dance houses and concert halls. Vince Solymosi from Tura won the special prize at the 2019 BMC International Cimbalom Competition and immersed himself in the depths of improvisation under the leadership of Miklós Lukács. In 2016, Áron Horváth from Vác won the "Fölszállott a páva” television talent show. He is also a student of Lukács. The young Paulína Škodovának, who hails from Bratislava and boasts excellent technique, has a repertoire that diverges from that of her Hungarian peers. According to Kálmán Balogh, she is one of the instrument's most sparkling talents. In the second half of the programme, the brand new Cimbalmos Trio will give prominent roles to improvisation and jazz alongside folk music. This is no wonder as Ferenc Zimber performs continuously as a member of the Dresch String Quartet, while Dániel Szabó recorded a joint album with the jazz drummer Balázs Bágyi even earlier. It is well known of Kálmán Balogh that he is a global star equally at home in classical, folk, jazz and world music. We can encounter the three of them at the podium discussion before the concert - with the programme editor Endre Liber asking the questions.
