Although Wagner's mature masterpiece, which he wrote after Tristan but before completing the Ring, is officially a comic opera and doesn't stint on entertainment, it is nevertheless much more complex, dealing with youth and old age, love and friendship, art and craft, as well as innovation and conservativism.

Come hear the most popular melodies, arias and orchestral excerpts from Richard Wagner’s operas at the closing event of the Budapest Wagner Days festival! We first held this highlights concert in 2023 and are now presenting it for the third time, in order to welcome not only fans, but also those who are just getting to know the magic of Wagner’s passionate style.

In the BMW season, there is room for thematic concerts that pay tribute to composers of the season. First in the series, the OPERA Orchestra presents different facets of Wagner, with a programme ranging from an overture to a comic opera and masterpieces of Lieder to the best-known chapter of his oeuvre.
