120 program

The late ’70s saw tremendous enthusiasm brewing over the appearance in cinemas of a new – and quintessentially Hungarian – genre: the ‘Goulash Western’, with films like The Wind Blows Under Your Feet and Wrong-Doers. Despite winning critical acclaim for them, however, director György Szomjas decided to take a completely different approach for his 1981 film.

Although he caused a scandal in the early ’70s with two of his animated films (Fritz the Cat and Heavy Traffic), which verge on adults-only fare, Ralph Bakshi remains an unfamiliar name to most people.

Az amszterdami Rijksmuseum a történelem legátfogóbb Vermeer kiállítását hozta tető alá: 35, a világban szétszórt, ismert munkájából 28-at felsorakoztat.

A kert a modern festészet fontos témája, ihlető forrása. A londoni Royal Academy of Arts 2016-os kiállítása mintegy 120 remekmű segítségével mutatja be e közkedvelt motívum szerepét, alakváltozásait az 1860-as évektől az 1920-as évekig, az impresszionizmustól az avantgárdig.

It’s not easy to navigate the world of country music with Old World ears. Even defining it is no straightforward task, after all, how do Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan, Nick Cave and Taylor Swift all fit together?

We have made an exception in this case and will be admitting viewers even if they haven’t brought any rice, candles, newspapers or toilet paper to the screening. In fact, we’ll even let you in without wearing one of the costumes popular among hard-core devotees of The Rocky Horror Show. The musical that inspired the film had already gained its own cult following in theatres as early as 1973. This is a parody that draws its humour from sci-fi and horror films.

Three stories taking place over the course of a single night in Memphis, seen from three different points of view. Jim Jarmusch has come up with an incredibly exciting storytelling technique for this film. (He has often chosen unusual narrative forms in his later works.) Furthermore, he only reveals it in the second part of the triptych.

What's wrong with Steve Vai or Joe Satriani playing Beethoven or Paganini on an electric guitar? (Or Itzhak Perlman playing a musical?) It’s just artistic crossover, right? Or might it be something else?
