A történet a nyomorúságos sorsú, de páratlanul nemes szívű csavargó és egy utcára kitett, árva gyermek találkozásáról szól. A gyermeket, azaz a kölyköt a csavargó saját fiaként neveli fel, ám a két különböző ember közös élete korántsem konfliktusmentes – rengeteg vicces, csacska helyzetet szül.
