An intimate portrait with unseen archival footage of the one and only Cesária Évora. Follow her unique rise from abject poverty to international stardom, and her unflinching charm and integrity glowing even brighter. The doting documentary by Ana Sofia Fonseca invites the divas beloved: her adored granddaughter, her cook and confidante and childhood friends to commemorate Cesária’s life and person. The social and natural background of Cape Verde also emerges along the seas, beaches and skies that infused her singing. A balanced work of thorough research, humble direction and deserved admiration.
